Everybody loves a good beginning.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”
—Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

“Call me Ishmael.”
—Herman Melville, Moby-Dick

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”
—Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

So what’s the story of Rose’s beginning? We thought you’d never ask!

At the top of a castle in Ireland, a boy meets a girl.

If this were a movie, this would be the part where the narrator rewound the screen, telling the audience that is NOT in fact where the story began. While that piece of the story is certainly true, it’s not quite the very beginning.

Rose Roofing and Restoration was born out of friendship when two of our co-founders, Paul and Matt, met in college. Their closeness was forged through many a college adventure, so much so, that when Matt did meet that girl at the top of an Irish castle (yes, it’s a true story) and convinced her to marry him in Ireland, Paul’s response was, “So when can I buy my ticket?”

It’s a good thing he bought that ticket to the Emerald Isle because, as fate would have it, he met Sarah at Matt and Elizabeth’s wedding. And get this: Sarah is Elizabeth’s sister. Paul and Sarah’s first date was the Cliffs of Moher and when Sarah called Elizabeth on her honeymoon (mid-Baltic-sea) totally giddy, Elizabeth and Matt knew that Paul was going to be around for the long haul.

Fast forward to Elizabeth and Matt starting several businesses, learning from the best of the best in the business landscapes of private equity, investment banking, and startups. Paul became a rock star in the roofing industry. Matt championed the idea of revitalizing the blue-collar arena with companies that treated their employees and their customers better at the same time.

On a warm summer night, Paul, Elizabeth, Matt, and Sarah were talking about what the roofing industry lacked: quality craftsmanship, clear communication, and professionalism. Then, the idea was born: what if we did just that.

What if we revolutionized the model by thinking differently and serving generously?

At that time, Matt and Elizabeth were going through the certification process to become foster parents. As Catholics, they have a devotion to a saint who is affectionately known as “The Little Flower.” They were so grateful for her spiritual friendship, they convinced the rest of the crew to name the company after her: a reminder that there is always help in difficult circumstances if we choose to ask.

Rose Roofing and Restoration was born.

This is how our story began, with close friends becoming family. We haven’t forgotten that heritage at Rose where family and community are at the core of everything we do. We look forward to inviting you into the Rose family, as a team member or as a client.

Thank you for being a part of our story!
